What is Tear Trough treatment and how does it work?

The area between your lower eyelid and upper cheek is known as your tear trough. As you get older, this changes in appearance; it becomes longer, deeper and more shadowed. Although this is a normal process as we age, it gives the impression of being tired and less vibrant.
Tear trough rejuvenation is a specialized non-surgical aesthetic treatment performed using a hyaluronic acid injectable gel with built-in Lidocaine. This replaces lost volume and at the same time retains skin hydration. We may also suggest a treatment plan that includes strengthening the upper cheek to support the area as well as treating the tear trough itself for the best cosmetic result. These treatments are delivered with semi-permanent dermal fillers for a soft and natural correction.

Is it safe and does it hurt?

Many people find their procedure at Age Repair more comfortable than expected. That’s because our medical practitioners are so highly skilled and precise; you should merely feel a gentle touch on your skin. In fact, most dermal fillers contain a local anesthetic.
Because the skin around your eyes is a delicate area, we will always ensure you feel safe and completely comfortable while undergoing tear trough treatment.

Are there any side effects?

Other side effects that may last up to 48 hours include bruising, bumps, swelling or can cause the under-eye skin to look bluish.

What can I expect after treatment?

The skin under the eyes is thin and more sensitive and more vascular and has more potential for bruising during injections. Patients should plan for at least one week of potential down time in case any bruising and swelling occurs. Although makeup can be applied light but in the first 5 days it's often still not enough to fully camouflage.

  • Immediately after treatment, there may be slight redness, swelling, lumpiness, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The inconvenience is temporary and generally disappears in a few days. If it continues or if other reactions occur, please call us.
  • The results directly after the treatment should not be seen as the final result as you will be swollen at this time.
  • Avoid touching the treatment area 6 hours after the treatment. After that the area can be gently washed with soap and water and light make-up can be applied.
  • Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. solarium and sunbathing) or extreme cold.
  • If you are using aspirin or any similar medication, be aware that these may increase the bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
